Fabian B Crawford's Story

Apr 21, 2015

What were the steps leading up to your diagnosis?

I was suffering from strange symptoms such as dizziness, back pain, and weakness on my right side.

I am pursuing my second degree and hope to walk across the stage in the fall of 2016.

What lifestyle changes have you needed to make?

I have had to think of my time as valuable commodity in order to combat fatigue. I had to lose weight in order to help manage the inflammation and constant pain. I lost over 60lbs in my journey to become as healthy as I possibly can.

Who has been there for you? How?

My family has been a life saver, if I was not for them I do not know if I would have been able to take this diagnosis as I have. They have been able to step in when I am too tired or just need to rest in order to avoid a relapse.

What accomplishment are you proud of?

I am proud that I am still standing after the MS diagnosis and diagnosis AVN of the hip in 2014. I am pursuing my second degree and hope to walk across the stage in the fall of 2016 with a new career as an educator. I also started a blog last year called urbanmschick, to document my MS journey and weight loss.

What's your advice to someone else living with Multiple Sclerosis?

Never give up! If you give up that is the first step to letting MS take more of you than this disease deserves, so never allow MS to take your will. Keep strong my friends and fight for your wellbeing.

Keep strong my friends and fight for your wellbeing.

Is there anything else we should know?

I am mother of four who is always pursuing knowledge. I love to read, write, and consider myself an amateur researcher. I have been involved in all things MS for only a year because I lived in denial. I was diagnosed in April 2009 with RRMS and now I want to help educate others about multiple sclerosis via my blog and social media sites.
